Our oldest Silver Birch tree that we planted soon after arriving is somehow 15 years old now and c. 25-50ft tall already. They are such a very fast growing species.
Birches can play host to over 300 types of insect life so are very much a pioneer species. Angle Shades and Buff-tipped are among the circa 120 moths it hosts.
